Are there really that many people moving to the Austin area? YES!!
Austin TX is currently ranked #9 for population growth. There are 151 new residents every single day. Not 151 people a week or a month, but a DAY!
Between July 2010 and July 2011, Austin TX added 55,272 people. Why? Many reasons, but Austin's unemployment hit below 5.5% last month, so I'll say the answer is J-O-B-S!
Austin also hits the top of many "Best of" Lists so that factors in as well.
To compare, Dallas gained 126,037 people during the same period of time, which is one person every 4 minutes and 10 seconds... Sounds like the surrounding hospitals are busy, as I don't think the airports are quite that busy for everyone to be relocating!!
To round out the top 5 list:
Houston is #2 - 301.6 people a day
Los Angeles is #3 - 275.2 people a day
New York City is #4 - 263.7 people a day
Washington DC is #5 - 259.7 people a day
This also answers the question as to why Austin's rental market is at 96% occupied and people are having a hard time finding a place to live when they aren't buying a house when they first get here.
