When I moved to Pennsylvania over twenty years ago I had never heard of Wawa, or the hoagie. The hoagie was my introduction to Wawa, known as a sub in other places, a baguette in Europe and various other names elsewhere, it was reliable as a place for a quick but fresh lunch. Whilst it is not my first choice for a hoagie as I do prefer my bread to be a little crunchy like a baguette, but since beginning to eat vegetarian for health reasons last year I have discovered that Wawa has several veggie options for sandwiches, including a whole wheat roll.
As a Realtor, time sometimes gets away from you and seeing a Wawa is a welcome sight as you know you will be able to get a decent snack, along with all those tasty but unhealthier options like candy and ice cream bars.
In the last twenty years I have seen Wawa grow and today they open many gas stations with convenience stores attached and have spread outside of Pennsylvania, allowing others to be introduced to the native American word for Canada Goose seen on their logo above who may at first say "Wawa, what is that?"
Our middle son drove through the rear doors to one of their stores on the first day he could drive on his own. The company allowed him to pay off his debt over time and even sent him a letter of commendation to upholding his side of the agreement and making his payments on time. So whilst I love to see a Wawa sign when I need gas or am hungry, I also have a fond place for them in my consciousness that they were not the typical American corporate giant when it came to dealing with a sixteen year old driver.
So, if you need gas, or are just simply hungry, and you have the Wawa option take it, you won't be disappointed.
