Walking around Green Lake was one of my first activities as a new Seattleite! Having moved here last Fourth of July weekend, I came during beautiful weather! I did not know why everyone had warned me about the constant rain and overcast skies (I would find out during the fall and winter!).
During the summer months of June, July, and August you can be sure that the sidewalks, path, and grass areas will be packed with people trying to soak up every ounce of sunshine possible. While I enjoying walking around Greenlake, there are many other activities offered at Green Lake, including swimming, boating, basketball, baseball, and open fields.
During the fall months of September, October, and November the golden belt of trees makes up for the brisk air. I was lucky enough to enjoy a walk in the fall sunshine around Green Lake and capture this photograph.
Be aware that there are "Feet Only" and "Wheels Only" desginated sides to the path around the lake. This is to help control traffic just as on Highway 99!
If you live in the greater Seattle area there are a few options to begin your walk around Green Lake:
- Walk/Bike/Skate from your house
- Plan your trip with Metro King County Transit
- Drive your car and Pay to Park
- Drive and park in one of the residential streets surrounding the lake (This is my most common choice)
This walk has something for everyone with its serene views and activities. With no real beginning or end, all are welcome at any time!
