Kitchens remain a priority when selling or buying a home and how they are designed and function plays into the dynamics of the transaction. Some kitchens need remodeling and some have had some work done on them. All time and money well spent. Adding to the kitchen to make it more attractive is a good idea...Enter the trash compactor
NOTHING LIKE IT
It was a handsome piece of machinery introduced in new housing. It looked good and had good marketing materials too. No muss or fuss, just throw you garbage in the unit, close it up and push the button and your trash is compacted. You just got rid of the trash can or basket
COST YOU A CABINET SPACE
Now people were having to trade a lower cabinet space for this handy dandy item. After some consideration and excitement, many chose the compacter. I was one of them. Worked as represented and even gave you a sense of power too
TIME REVEALED ITS FLAWS
It wasn't long before the downside crept up on you. It took time for the following to manifest. Here it is listed by the numbers:
1. The smell of garbage sitting there for one week was noticeable
2. You had to buy special garbage bags of a heavy duty nature and expense to withstand the unit
3. It weighed a ton when you went to throw it out
4. The top of the unit started to smell and mold with decay as whatever it depresses with enormous strength made its way into the crevices of the operating machine.
EPILOGUE
It wasn't long before the negatives over took the positives and the industry was notified. Right after that, you started wishing for the space to be a cabinet or drawer anything but a trash compactor...remember?
