Alright all my fellow donut lovers. Tomorrow is a day when we can celebrate our love for sweet pastries. It is a day when we have an excuse for eating unhealthy without the guilt. Tomorrow, June 1st., is National Donut Day! Whether you prefer twists, bear claws, cream or fruit filled, long johns, fritters, cake, or just plain glazed, you can feel justified for enjoying that pastry.
There is an interesting story that goes along with National Donut Day. It was started by the Salvation Army in 1938 to raise money for the needy during the Great Depression. The donuts were to honor the women that surved the soldiers donuts during WW1.
So as you bite into that scrumptious fried dough, remember the history behind National Donut Day.
