I just met with a client to discuss preparing her home for "The Big Match"! What's that you ask? Well, it's the Real Estate Market! As I talked with her I really tried to impress upon her that placing her home on the market needed to be viewed as preparing to compete...entering a race....a race to WIN! As most people know, especially those in "the biz", there is allot of competition right now and to be REALLY competitive, the seller must realize all the marketing tools that are at their disposal.
One of the first priorities on our Staging agenda was to neutralize some of the colors on the walls. While they were all beautiful, full, intense hues which perfectly matched her and her family's personality....they were far TOO PERSONALIZED to appeal to the greater audience we were hoping to entice.
It is so important to realize that colors are emotive. They evoke certain sensations and feelings in people and typically, bold colors produce a stronger reaction then more mild or neutral hues do. When you're placing your home on the market, the trick is to Design by De-personalizing.
Re-painting the RED kitchen a more neutral Cafe Au Lait and the intense Mustard color in the living room a more subdued RAIN or pewter hue, will definitely create a space that instantly appeals to a greater number of potential buyers....just what we are both shooting for!
