Credit score erased?

I have a client that told me they went to their credit union to get pre-approved for their next home and they didn't pull ANY credit score at all.  I told them the must have entered some numbers backwards or something since you don't go from being a homeowner to having NO credit.  The last credit report they had showed scores in the 800's and now n/a?

I sent them over to my mortgage lender only find out in fact they have NO credit scores!  I have never heard of someone's credit totally ceasing to exists after it has been established, have you?

I am dumbfounded as to how a couple can have owned a home and sold it via Citi Mortgage and even had a HELOC with Bank of America somehow dropped out of radar and now their credit history is just gone.

I asked them if they were under the witness protection program and they said no.  Does anyone have any idea of how all three major credit bureaus can wipe someone's credit clean away as if it never existed?

Jim-  Yes I have seen it on a couple of occasions.  Usually because of inactivity on revolving debit for a long period of time.  Old trade lines that are closed and paid off with stay on the report for seven years but if nothing being reported as open lines of credit for a long while then there is nothing to report good or bad so causing no scores.  It's rare to see no scores but I have seen them before.

@Stephanie, thanks for the feedback.  These people sold their house just a little over a year ago.  It is weird having to show alternate credit for people that are previous home owner's, have a child and are (and have always been) US citizens.

Did they tell you that they had a mortgage or did you sell the house and know from personal experience????

@Lenn, I took them at their word.  They have applied for a mortage and we are using "alternate credit" like phone and utility bills and rent for a manual underwriting.  I assume when they supply their last two years of bank statements, it will show the home from the past.

I will post an update when I have one.
