Here is a powerful story that demonstrates that if you exercise your rights and continue to fight that you can overcome a difficult financial situation.
How A Single Mom Saved Her Home And Daughters
Two of Kathy Sontag’s daughters, Brittany and Cassie, were diagnosed with a rare immune disorder. They both required months of grueling treatment and even bone marrow transplants. They left their home in Inola, Oklahoma for months on end while fighting to survive.
But medical bills piled up. Kathy, a single mother, missed work to care for her daughters. She says the payments on her home mortgage are becoming too much for her, and so she’s been asking Wells Fargo to adjust her loan payments.

Loan Modification Run-Around
The bank hasn’t budged. Wells Fargo wanted to foreclose on Kathy’s home, despite the family living there for 20 years. Kathy didn’t give up in her fight to save her daughters, and she did not give up fighting against Wells Fargo.
She started a petition on Change.org asking Wells Fargo to modify her home loan so that she and her daughters can stay in the only home they’ve known together.

Kathy posted on change.org “For years, Wells Fargo has lost my paperwork and given me the run-around, but I never missed a mortgage payment. I’m a single mom and my family has been through a lot in the last few years. I had to take off months of work to care for my daughters while they received surgeries out of state and medical bills piled up. I’m not asking for a handout. I just want to be able to live in the home I’ve lived in for years with my daughters and to continue to make mortgage payments at a reasonable level.”
Grass Roots Extreme Home Makeover
The home Kathy shares with Brittany, Cassie, and her third daughter is no ordinary home. When their neighbors heard about the girls’ illnesses, they decided to pitch in. They transformed Kathy’s home, including extensive repairs and a new ventilation system, all designed to make the girls’ recovery as easy as possible.
When her daughters finally were able to return home, wearing face masks to protect their fragile immune systems, they were greeted by their friends and neighbors holding signs and cheering. “The whole community got together,” said Kathy. “It was like they did their own version of Extreme Home Makeover.”
The Foreclosure Has Been Stopped!
On May 2, 2012 Kathy posted on change.org that she received a call from Sadie Walker with Wells Fargo and was told that “The foreclosure has been stopped and we are working on a resolution you will be very pleased with”. I cannot even begin to thank everyone enough for the help and support. So much weight and stress has been lifted off my shoulders. Now it will be so much easier to concentrate on my first grandbaby. Kingston James Brewer is due June 11. THANK YOU AGAIN! I will post the resolution they give me when I get it.
