Ginger Cookies

350 degrees at 8-10 minutes; makes 48 cookies

3/4 cup Crisco shortening

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup molasses

1 egg

2 cups flour

2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. ginger

1 tsp. ground cloves

Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg; beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Roll into walnut size balls and dip into granulated sugar. Bake on greased sheet. The cookies should be just starting to brown when removed from oven so they will be chewy when cooled.

Thank you for posting this; I love ginger anything!  I've saved your recipe with Evernote and will try it one day.  Maybe for my next Open House!

Hi JoAnn, I have never made ginger cookies.  Sounds like an easy recipe.  Can this recipe be used to make gingermen and women?

I love ginger cookies, and I haven't used molasses in a recipe in years.  I think I will whip some of these up and toss them into the oven!

Hi JoAnne,

I think it sounds delicious and I am going to make a recipe card and make them at Christmas time. Thanks so much for sharing.
