The power of the written word: Taking a blog to the NEXT level.

If one doesn't understand that, how can they explain the national bloggers who sell advertising in the "$Millions and who influence national politics and generate millions of readers??

HA!  How many readers does that attorney generate with his pleadings??

Richard was insulted by an attorney who demeaned his blogging as something less than "writing".  That attorney clearly has no knowledge of the power of a blog.  He has probably never published to a blog.

The fact that he said "written" anything shows that he is ignorant of the internet and the myriad ways of publishing our writings.

If he had asked had you ever had any works "published", your answer may have been different.

Today, however, one does not have to be a member of PENUSA to publish works.

The attorney's remarks were condescending and insulting, revealing a lack of sophistication and awareness of the POWER OF THE BLOG.

Demeaning you was his job.  He could just as easily have used your choice of neckties for that day.

From basic information to the power of the written word: Taking a blog to the NEXT level by Richard WeisserBlogs provide a wonderful conduit for the free flow of information. As a blog is populated with content it can also become a significant archive of accumulated knowledge.

But I look at my blog as more than an assemblage of indexed data. I would actually go so far as to consider myself to be a writer.

I was recently asked at a deposition if I had ever “written” anything. I responded that I had written a blog post every day for over four years, and that over 250 of them (at that time) were nationally featured.

The attorney leaned forwarded and pressed with something along the lines of: “Have you ever REALLY written anything?”

The question stung like a bee. I have honed my craft over the years and consider myself to be quite accomplished in both the written word and the art of photography. I have merged the two disciplines into a daily musing that I consider worthy of authorship.

Perhaps I have deluded myself. But I am of the belief that words are powerful, and when properly used go beyond the simple delivery of information.

Words, when properly ordered, can evoke passion, emotion, and empathy.

The crucible of publishing refines and the results are assayed by the reader’s response.

If this isn’t writing, I don’t know what is.

Yes a blog is a powerful publishing tool. And yes some attorneys can be an arrogant condescending sort.

Gary.  Indeed they can and I've been the target of a very nasty, condescending and insulting lawyer during a deposition.   However, I WON THE CASE.

I'm not sure I understand the lawyer's point, except to note that he was being typically arrogant.  I assume he means a nationally-read work, and only considers that to be "writing."

Sounds like a lawyer being a lawyer.  There are just as many STUPID lawyers as there are stupid Realtors.

Jay.  Once a blog post is published, it IS a nationally read work.

Jeanne and Ralph.  Indeed.  I suspect, however, that lawyers have a clear edge when it comes to insulting language.  They are, after all trained to practice such language.

That attorney showed his ignorance IMO, has that attorney ever really written anything either lol ;)!  Richard is a Writer...period.  All that lawyer had to do was read some of his work!

The blog is very powerful and when you keep doing it, you get better :)!  Thanks for the reblog, I had missed Richard's post :)!

Ginny.  I agree completely.

Brenda.  Richard didn't say how he responded to the attorney's insulting inuendo.  That might be interesting too.

Hi Lenn....he had to openly and aggressively be demeaning to Richard.... Richard is a real estate agent and makes much more money than he does.... that's the only way attorneys can sit at the same table as real estate agents and not commit a crime.

Barbara.  Well done.

Sad that there is a forum, depositions where the witnesses are under oath but the attorneys are not.

Interesting twist in Richard's follow up post!

I wonder if the same descriptions would be used given "the rest of the story."
