One More Reason I Love Living in Colorado

Real Estate Agent with GoodFit Homes (with Keller Williams)

This past Sunday, I got to take my 10-year-old nephew, Jack, on his first 14er. Jack lives in Oklahoma, and he loves visiting Colorado. I know that a 14er would be a tall order for any kid, but Jack is a phenomenal soccer player and quite the little athlete. I told him in advance that it would be difficult and long. He loves a challenge.

It was hard, and there were a couple of times that he wanted to quit. (It helped that there was an 11-year-old girl hiking with her mom who overtook us once or twice. He wasn't going to let a girl beat him.) In the end, he powered through and we made the summit of Mt. Elbert: the highest peak in Colorado!

Congratulations to you, Jack: I'm so glad we got to have that experience together. I'm looking forward to taking my own kids once they're big enough.

Is a 14er referring to the height of the mountain, or the length of the walk?

Anyway, looks beautiful up there!

Beautiful! And a wonderful accomplishment for your nephew. We've never been to that part of the country but you're certainly enticing me to add it to the bucket list.  ;)

If I lived in Colorado, I'd join you for regular hikes up the 14ers! As it is, I have to settle for walks up Snow King Mountain here in Jackson, a paltry 7,808 elevation. Even Grand Teton only has an elevation of 13, 770...

Sorry Virginia; "14er" refers to the height at the peak: at least 14,000 feet. They're the tallest peaks in the Rockies.

Thanks, Brenda! Come on out and see us!

You've got some beautiful scenery of your own in Jackson Hole, Tim. Look me up if you're ever down this way; there are plenty of 14ers I haven't hit yet!
