Summertime is upon us! The fun, the sun, the friends, the family, the vacation...the jump in your electric bill.
Yep, running the air conditioner makes a big difference in our electric bills, but you would be amazed at the other things we don't think about that also make a big difference. The California Energy Commission has a wonderful site with some great tips for saving money on your Summer energy bills.
Here is a sample of some of the "fast & free" energy saving tips...
1) Use your microwave for as much cooking as you can within reason. It uses 2/3 less energy than a conventional stove.
2) Set the ol' thermostat to 78. Yes, really...set your thermostat to 78 degrees when you're home. Then make sure you use ceiling or room fans...the air movement they create cools the room, which allows you to set your thermostat higher.
3) If you have a spare refrigerator in your garage, unplug it or recycle it if you don't really need it. You can save a whopping 10 to 20 percent on your energy bill.
4) You can save another 4% by using hot water sparingly for laundry. Use warm or cold water for washing clothes, then always use cold water for rinsing.
Just a few small changes can make a noticable difference on your summertime energy bills:)
