And The Award For The Most Spam Comments On A Featured Blog Goes To …

Real Estate Broker/Owner with North Shore Suburbs & Chicago Real Estate

TrophyI think I may have set a new ActiveRain world record.  My last blog was recently featured and at one given moment, I had SEVEN spam comments!  Hey, I’ve seen my share of spam comments on featured blogs before but if I'm not mistaken, I think this takes the cake!  One of our colleagues even mentioned in his own comment that the spammers seemed to be paying special attention to me – after which he thanked me for allowing him the opportunity to report three spam comments in one shot.

You Like Me … You Really Like Me!
I’m wondering exactly what it was that caused the spammers to become so enamored with my blog.  Perhaps it was just a matter of convenience and pure coincidence.  However, I recently noticed a spam comment on a blog I posted several months ago.  Do the spammers really think somebody is going to see their advertisement on a blog I posted six months ago?  Geez ... don’t these people know anything about effective marketing techniques?

Certainly, we all know how irritating the spam comments can be.  And, as far as I can tell, nobody is really interested in buying what the spammers are selling ... even if they claim to have great prices on everything from shoes to handbags to jewelry.  If I promise to buy one of their sexy, cocktail dresses … do you think they’ll leave my blogs alone?

Carie, I may have tied you with that number with a feature post that was spammed big time. One of the spammers actually set up an Rainmaker account so that they could have easy access.

Hey Carie... Spam in AR doesn't really seem to bug me.  I report it rack up the 10 points, AR staff takes care of it early the next day and all is well with the world. They did seem to really love your last Feature if I recall correctly.  Maybe they know good stuff when they see it :)  Suggested.....

There are only two good things about spam..1- it gets you 10 points if you report it 2- it sometimes brings back a memory of an old post. Margaret

Hi, Carie...they're like fleas! They latch on to someone and then eventually "hop" over and pester someone else. I'm not sure why AR can't find a better way to screen comments for the gobbledy-gook. Considering we have to type in a graphic everytime we post, you would think there would be a way to screen for these spammers.

Carie, There was a blitz of spam the other day.  Donna Harris had a Feature that had 26 spam comments on it at one time, and it might have went higher after my first look.  The AR Staff fended off that attack after a full day's effort.

I had the same thought yesterday.  I just can't believe that these spammers are effective in selling anything by coming, unwanted, to our little Active Rain party!

Susan:  Yes, four is a lot too!  I wonder how spammers decide how many spams to post :)

Ed:  I'm happy to share the award with you :)  Spammers opening up Rainmaker accounts ... now that's downright sneaky!

Joni:  Thanks, Joni ... I'll pass on the cocktail dress :)

John:  I like your attitude :)  Yes, I guess it's really no biggie ... report them for extra points, AR staff takes them away, and go on with your life.  Well said.  And, thank you for the 'Suggest'!

Margaret:  Two very good points ... thanks, Margaret :)

Melissa:  Seven seems to have been their magic number this week :)

Nina:  I like your analogy :)  Yes, spammers are like fleas and they're so pervasive!

Valerie:  Yes, ma'am ... received almost my entire daily allowance of spam points just from my blog alone :)

Liz & Bill:  Holy Moly!  26 at one time?  I think I may have to turn in my crown :)

Kathryn:  Nothing worse than an uninvited guest who doesn't leave the sales pitch at the door, right? :)
