Children from three children’s homes and ‘littles’ from Big Brothers/Big Sisters get chances for fun
July 21 will be a big day on Lake Norman Real Estate' target=_blank>Lake Norman Real Estate' target=_blank>Lake Norman Real Estate' target=_blank>Lake Norman for disadvantaged children: Two different organizations will be involved in a day’s worth of activities there.
The Lake Norman Sail and Power Squadron will have children and staff members from three area children’s homes on the lake for its Youth Day. Children and staffers from the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte organization will be out for the Big Day at the Lake.
Organizers of LNSPS’s Youth Day, first held in 2000, expect nearly 200 attendees from the Barium Springs Home for Children near Troutman, South Mountain Children and Family Services and the Children’s Home of Iredell County in Statesville.
Meanwhile, the Big Day at the Lake’s organizers expect several hundred “littles” (children) and “bigs” (the volunteer mentors) for its event, first held in 2005.
Besides a day of boating and swimming on Lake Norman, both groups have lakeside picnics planned: the LNSPS Youth Day at the Davidson College Lake Campus near Mooresville, and Big Day at the Lake at the Duke Energy Explorium in Huntersville.
Both organizations are seeking donations from individuals and businesses to fund this year’s events, as well as future events.
