White Elephant? I Don’t Remember Seeing a White Elephant! – As a professional home stager in Appleton, WI, there are times when I walk into a house to be staged and think, “Huh. What do I do with THAT?!”
As any home stager will tell you, every house is unique and some present bigger challenges than others. I recently staged a vacant foreclosure in Oshkosh, WI that had a very big, and to buyers, a very costly White Elephant.
As is the case with many foreclosures, the White Elephant was the missing appliances in the kitchen. As a professional home stager, it is my job to find ways to help potential buyers connect emotionally with a house. That emotional connection will often help buyers overlook or minimize those White Elephants.
So, what did I do with the White Elephant in this house? I tried my hardest to make people laugh. So instead of them grouchily thinking: “Oh man! This will be ANOTHER expense of this house”, I strived to make them laugh while happily thinking: “I guess I’ll have to get new appliances!”
I set up this scene on the counter next to where the stove should have been. I like take out just as much as the next person, but a house with no appliances requires take out!
I guess it worked since this house has an accepted offer just 65 days after it was staged. Considering the average DOM in Oshkosh, WI is 313, I would call this a success!
Do you have a White Elephant you need to minimize? I would love the opportunity to wrangle more elephants, so please let me know how I can help you with home staging!
