Get comfortable and stop worrying about what your neighbors think!

Many people who are facing a foreclosure are so concerned with what the neighbors will think that they think it's just better to ignore their troubles and walk away as they don't want to have to deal with trying to avoid foreclosure and they certainly don't want to have to deal with what the neighbors will think if they put their home up for sale as a Short Sale; we can't let the neighbors know that we're struggling and have to face them while walking the dog.

Why must we care so much about what the neighbors think? Perhaps, many have gotten into trouble with affording their homes because they wanted to keep up with their neighbors and got into a home they truly couldn't afford and should have never been approved for by their lender. Or maybe they just came across hard luck and have had a real strain on their finances ... they're embarrassed and they don't want anyone to know. Have we become so materialistic in society that what we have says what we're about - absolutely it should not be that way. Forget about that! Life's true pleasures are really about what meaningful relationships we have with our God, family and friends and not about our possessions. Have you ever ached when a loved one was away or hurt? This is what really matters not what you have.

So lets get our communities back to the basics, save for our homes for what we can afford and forget about what the neighbors will think. Stop keeping up with the Jones' and think more about what really matters.

I would imagine this is a concern of people.  You are right on with this one and I agree its okay to short sale, who cares what the neighbors think.

People are concerned about the what the neighbors think.  But in a very difficult situation like a short sale, owners just have to swallow their pride and get on with it.

I get this sometimes. What I do to lessen the impact is to not use a sign or lockbox. Our MLS also allows us the option of restricting the listing from being published on outside websites.
