Wooden Stone Gallery and the Town of Davidson will offer a series of cooking classes starting in April to help you learn to make stellar meals at home. See the details below – along with news about Bonefish Grill coming to Birkdale, a restaurant “promenade” in Davidson, the date of Ben & Jerry’s spring Free Cone Day, a variety of wine and beer events, and a bevy of local musical performances.
Wooden Stone Gallery and the Town of Davidson are pairing up to give you the skills you need to make restaurant-quality food in your own kitchen. The Hands-On Cooking Series will allow cooks of any skill level to learn how to make a gourmet seasonal meal using locally-available ingredients. After honing your skills, you get to sit down in the gallery and enjoy the tasty meal you’ve created with a glass of wine. The first class will be on Sunday, April 29, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., and more classes will occur on the last Sunday of each following month. April’s lesson is themed around French food with spring ingredients, and will cost $60 a person.
The menu will include: Bruschetta with Peppers and Gorgonzola, Herb-Roasted Leg of Lamb, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes w/Fresh Herbs, Loin of Pork with Green Peppercorns, Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce, Crème Brulee.

Bonefish Grill, a nationwide chain of seafood restaurants, is opening a new location in Birkdale Village, near Pier One. This year will feature some new flavors, including Chocolate Nougat Crunch, Banana Peanut Butter, Blueberry Vanilla Graham, Raspberry Fudge Chunk, and Vanilla Greek frozen yogurt, and all donations will benefit the Exceptional Children’s Assistance Center (ECAC). The ECAC is a Davidson-based organization founded to help parents and families of children with disabilities, and now offers a range of child-centered programs and services. “DRINK PINK” AT FLATIRON WED.
On Wed., Feb. 15, Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse will be “drinking pink” to raise money for breast cancer prevention. The restaurant will be open until 2 a.m., with Off Main Jazz Trio – saxophonist Charlie Ford, guitarist George Ramsay, and bassist Daniel Bernstein – performing live music from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. A portion of all the evening’s proceeds will go to Connor Eating House of Davidson College, which is raising money to promote early detection of breast cancer. ASS CLOWN BEER DINNER
Have you heard of Ass Clown Brewery? Founded last year, this Cornelilus brewery may have a bizarre name, but it produces serious beers: seriously flavorful, seriously unique, and seriously local. Matt Glidden, the owner and brewer, is dedicated to using North Carolina-grown ingredients as often as possible, and experiments with unusual flavors (often organic as well as local).

For an alternative way to unite beer and food, you can also check out the Beer Pairings Dinner at the Fox and the Hound in Birkdale Village.
