From Fishhawk Lake: The Three Amigas Travel Log
I’m just going to share one day in our “Retreat at Fishhawk Lake” with Debb Janes, Mel Peterson and me.
Since the weather was inclement, hiking, and lots of boatrides were out of the question. What’s a girl (or three) to do? Why, eating and shopping are the answer!
We drove to Cannon Beach Oregon, one of my all-time favorite getaways, just about an hour from Fishhawk Lake--a great place to take visitors for a day trip when you own property here. Since breakfast had been rather slim, we decided to enjoy some food before going on a shopping spree.
We chose a delightful little bistro-ish place called Sweet Basil’s Café, where everything's organic. Shirley waited on us…gotta love her, she is “THE baker”,
and did all of the decadent desserts which in our mind’s eye we enjoyed…virtually as we were too full at the end of our meal to partake.
Debb and I enjoyed a Portabello delight with crab and cheese—to DIE FOR.
Perfectly cooked, filling but not to the point of being too stuffed.
Mel had some kinda wrap, it looked good and healthy.
We commandeered a young lady at the next table to take pictures (ahem, with all THREE CAMERAS and she didn’t complain), so that we could capture the moment.
Once we were satiated, we headed to the Purple Moon Boutique, my favorite clothing and accessory shop at Cannon Beach. They invited us to partake in some wine, but we graciously declined. Don’t want to cloud those shopping decisions! (Although, I’m sure a little vino helps open the pocketbook more readily—smart marketing ploy!) Mel and I bought some things, but Debb abstained til we got further down the street and she finally gave in and picked out a perfectly fitted jacket (I wanted it, but I’ll just live vicariously through her on this one).
Along the way through Cannon Beach, I snapped a couple of flower photos.
Poppies, but one looked completely different than the other. (I thought the one on the right looked like it had a face).
We headed to Astoria to find the Coffee Girl, a place that was on Mel's list of Go-Sees. We did in fact find it on a rickety one-way-over-the-water bridge and onto a wharf, right on the Pacific Ocean. Alas, she wasn't open. However, I did find a cool old boat in disrepair to photograph.
Later, we returned home to Fishhawk Lake and bundled up for a brief blustery ride on the pontoon and Debb was kind enough to shoot some video for later posts. (Thanks, girlfriend!) It was a photo-op for me, too in between navigating the pontoon through the winds and eventually homeward.
We settled down to some knoshing for dinner (nothin’ fancy) and great conversations where we bared our souls, then off to the theatre to see Must Love Dogs. Terrific girlfriend movie!
Gosh, what a wonderfully full day we had! (I’m ready for a nap just writing about it…how ‘bout you??)
