I remember a time when I heard my mother say something about it making her feel "old" when all the baseball players were younger than her. It was a while ago, because now they are all younger than me. And When I look at his young man who was born March 19, 1989 which was after my daughter I can't help but think of him as a kid. But he is not.
Vincent Hancock is a Olympian. But he was also a Soldier. When he competed and won gold in 2008 is when I began to read about this boy from Eatonton, GA who was just a child. He was recruited to join the Army as a 16 year old. He completed basic training between his junior and senior year of high school. Winning 7 international shooting competitions apparently gets their attention. In the article I love the admiration on the face of man in background who is not named in the photo. I suppose being from Eatonton also my face looks a little like that as I have pride for his Gold from the 2008 games.
Recently Vincent announced on his fan facebook page that he's made the 2012 Olympic team. I never had any doubts that would happen. We're all pulling for him back in Eatonton Georgia. We'll be watching and rooting him on again. His event are July 30th and 31st. He also recently posted a request to get to 1000 Facebook fans before the 2012 Olympic games. I shared that request yesterday on a few groups I'm in on Facebook and in a matter of hours he'd reached that goal.
But now I respectfully request more for our hometown young man. He's going for the second time to the Olympics to represent the United States of America. Come on folks, he should have a LOT more than 1000 fan leaving him messages and rooting him on. So I'm challenging anyone to reads this to do two simple things. Neither will take much of your time, but I bet if you do it you will succeed in giving personal encouragement to not only a kind young man, but one who is a soldier and an Olympic & world Champion. You can do that for him right.
- Go and "LIKE" Vincent Hancock's Facebook Fan page
- Leave him a message to encourage him.
I bet if you do this and ask your friends to do this by sharing his Facebook Fan page your Facebook page we can get this kid (yeah yeah I know he's not really a kid) to not just 1,000 fans cheering him on for the 2012 Olympic games, but multiple thousands. He's an American Olympian asking for our encouragement and suppoert. You'll do that won't you?
