Disc Golf on the Crystal Coast

Fort Benjamin Park, Newport, NC

Fort Benjamin Park in Newport, North Carolina was completed in April, 2011, and is absolutely fabulous.  The park has something for everyone and is in pristine condition.  With six lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball court, 2 picnic shelters, baseball fields,Fort Benjamin Park, Newport, NC playground, shuffleboard court, band shell, bocce/croquet lawn, 1 mile Fitness trail with excercise stations, and Recreation Center, the public park is a wonderful place to visit.  If it wasn't wonderful enough before, they have now completed a nine hole disc golf course.  If you are looking for a great way to spend an afternoon, or an entire day, head over to Fort Benjamin Park in Newport, NC.

Frisbee Golf in Carteret CountyWith Dick's Sporting Goods in Morehead City now open and carrying a nice selection of Innova Discs for frisbee golf, it's a great time to learn the fun sport  of disc golf in Carteret County.  The basic concept is a lot like regular golf.  Try to get through the course with as few tosses of the disc as possible.  My family and I tried it out yesterday and had a blast.

With a family of three beginner disc golf players, it took us about 1 and 1/2 hours to complete the 9 hole course, and now we are hooked.

Amy, Sounds like a nice park!  Been awhile since I've played disc golf.  We've got a few courses in our area, even got a call from someone because of a blog post on one of the courses :)

Hey. someone was thinking - they made the baskets bright orange so you can SEE them on the course! Nothing worse than looking right at a basket that blends into the woods and just not seeing it. :-D

Disc golf is popular here, too. There's a course tucked away in a grove of trees in Golden Gate Park.

Amy~ Anyone could find something fun to do at Fort Benjamin Park in Newport, North Carolina.  Love the addition of disc golf.  I'm not much for the real thing (golf, that is) but I do like miniature golf and think I could learn to enjoy disc golf too!

Amy,  I can't wait to try this.  I've been to soccer games at Fort Benjamin Park but never checked out the disc golf.  Is there a charge for using the course?

Amy, as much as I've thrown around a Frisbee I'm surprised that I haven't given Disc Golf a try yet.  There is a Disc Golf park near me here in Huntsville...I guess it's not too late to give it a try.
