Happy Fathers Day, Dad - I miss you and Mom!

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold, Fair Oaks

Today is Fathers' Day -  one of those days, along with Mothers' Day, that makes me a bit melancholy.  Okay, maybe more than a bit.
Mom and Dad - Harry and Frances Becher
My Mom and Dad have both passed away.  I miss them both all the time, but on special days like their birthdays or days like this, I envy those folks who can still buy a special card for their parents, give them a big hug, and see them smile.

I hear others sometimes complain that their mom wants them to call all the time or their dad doesn't agree with their political position so they just avoid their parents.  I want to tell them how they will feel when that parent is gone.  All those petty annoyances will seem so unimportant then, so make them unimportant now while you still can.

I am now the matriarch of my family, since all aunts, uncles, parents and most of my cousins are gone, as well as my sister.  There is no one around to talk about my childhood with, to ask for the name of a friend or neighbor whose name I can't recall, or what the name of the hotel was where we stayed on our family vacation when I was 12.  Or to laugh with about a funny thing that happened when I was a kid.

I don't say this to feel sorry for myself, but to urge those whose families are living to keep in touch, maintain those connections, and enjoy your family while you can.

I had wonderful parents.  Oh sure, there were times when I got irritated with them during my life, but I'm grateful to have had them in my life.  They were very supportive of anything I did, and no matter what I wanted to try, they were sure I would succeed, so a part of me succeeded just so I wouldn't disappoint them - even though they had never once been disappointed in me my entire life.

Thanks Mom and Dad.  I love you so much.  And Happy Fathers' Day, Dad!

Susan I am so sorry to hear that you have no one on your side of the family. I think that two child families are great and economical, however that leaves much to desired on down the road when you get older.

Luckily I have two brothers and sisters to relate to. It is great when caring for older parents. I am not going to lie and say it was not a financial burden on my parents. I am also lucky that they are both still alive. Really getting nervous, dad is 91 and mom is 80.

Sussie - It is sad to think about my famil being gone, but mostly I'm so lucky to have had them in my life, and I hope I showed them that every day as they got older. I used to call every day at about the same time to check on them, and I miss those calls too.

Hi Susan,

Thanks for sharing and thanks for reminding how important one's family is. I agree 100% and I'm happy to say I always keep in touch with my family and maintain connections:) ....But sorry to hear, although, they are not here now, I'm sure those precious memories that you have with them is something that makes them somehow alive in you:)

Have a good day!
