Everybody's moving to North Carolina!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty of Pinehurst

Interesting. . .United Van Lines has just released details on its annual migration study, and apparently their numbers support what we are feeling here--y'all want to live here!  (As a transplant from the Midwest via 32 years in the Northeast, I am going out on a limb with that "y'all")

For the second year in a row, North Carolina topped the list of states that people are moving into."The South emerged as a top migration spot in 2007, with North Carolina coming in as the top destination (61.6% inbound).

For more details on the study, here's the link: http://www.unitedvanlines.com/mover/united-newsroom/press-releases/2008/2007-united-van-lines-migration-study.htm

I am working with literally dozens of folks who would be here in a flash if they could sell their homes in those states in the study with high outbound rates.  As I have probably said a few times here, people are looking for what this state (and the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area) has to offer in terms of lifestyle, climate, cost of living, cost of real estate.  For the golfer looking for a retirement home, there is no better play than NC, and if you are looking for geographic diversity, the Sandhills, Moore County, is an hour and a half from the coast, 3 from the mountains, and in the middle of its own recreational paradise.

I have family, friends and clients from Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland who have relocated or who plan to relocate to North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama. It is interesting. Thanks for the post.

The builders in North Carolina are doing a good job of marketing up "north".  I'm going to a Live South show here in Virginia this weekend and expect that it will be jammed.

Both sets of my inlaws have retired to North Carolina and my brother moved there for a few years.  It's a great state.  Low taxes, beautiful scenery, lively cities and great colleges.  Now if there was only a decent mall in Northeast North Carolina..............

Jill,

I have many family members that have moved to North Carolina & they say they would never come back to New York - not even for a million dollars.  I have never been there but I have heard it is wonderful.  I guess you will be very busy this year!

Somehow the secret's out about NC. When I moved to Charlotte from NY nearly 6 yrs ago my family thought I was crazy. I've never regretted the decision, this is a great place to live!

I have seen alot of people leaving Florida for that area.  Just spoke with someone from united van lines and 2007 is the first time he has moved more people out of Florida than into Florida.

Charlie: Glad to know you are seeing the uptick.  Are you anywhere near Columbus or Marietta? (sorry for the Ga. Geo-ignorance)Two of my buyers are preparing homes to sell in those towns.

Craig: What're ya waiting for?  Join the throngs (but leave your license at home! My board has grown by about 40% since I got my Treo this past summer, and could watch the numbers just by pushing a few buttons on my cell phone--can't wait for the dues deadline to see if there is at least a little fallout.) and oh, by the way, for those family, friends and clients still in the planning stages, I am NEVER too busy for your referrals! ;)

Cindy: Cindy, how was the show?

Tina: Oh, yeah that mall thing.  A mall fix for me requires a trip to Raleigh--I really like the New North Hills Mall.  One is actually in the planning and permitting stages right here in the heart of the Sandhills, that should make life, er, ah, different.  (good when you have a prospective relo client family with teenagers, who invariably make all the important family decisions--Muuhh-ther, there's not a mall--we can't possibly live here.)

Debbie: Go back?? to snow shovelling and woolies and boots and noreasters...Easy to see their point.  You should come check us out (but refer to license comment to Craig above, seems everyone in the county who is not licensed is currently in real estate school).

Diane: Ain't it the truth?  Where were you in NY?  Do you ever get over to Pinehurst?

Chris: Halfbacks are definitely a mainstay of our business here.  I have few halfback wannabes hoping to sell homes there and get here soon.  Wanna help?
