What Is It With All The Photo Taking?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Photo TakingThere is an old joke about a man who goes on the treadmill for an hour but he left his cell phone with camera at home, and says to himself, well THAT was a waste. Meaning he could not document his sweating and upload to Facebook to his friends. ME being usually a late adopter and complete dunce with Social Media I throw out the question to you,

What Is It With All The Photo Taking?

I used to take photos on vacations or nature or significant people events. Sometimes 20 pictures of me in three months. Today's teenagers take 20 pictures in an hour. Some older women tell me DON'T take their picture, being self conscious of their appearance. But younger folks it is snap, snap, snap. Pictures of their lasagna, purple colored hair, standing in front of the mirror, their goofy smile on their friend, and THEN upload it all to Facebook with commenting. I get the grandkids photos, photos of the dog at the window, the new tomato plants sprouting in the backyard. But endless photos of yourself? Cameras in the phones and iPads, and tiny cameras for your pocket make this easy.

But if you don't take a picture it didn't happen?? LOL.

How do you see this in your world???

Well, besides agreeing with John above ... I so hear you!  All the pic taking makes me somewhat nervous too.  Who's getting their pic taken when they don't really want it taken???  ... is something that always comes to mind.  I mean ... there IS a time and a place.  And some things just need to be left to the imagination.  Call me old-fashioned ...

Gary:

I hear you. It seems crazy, I guess because the camera is the phone that we carry it makes it easier. That said you will find very few pictures if any of me taken by my phone. I take pics of family, friends or scenery.

Is this why you work out on the treadmill so you can take pictures of the hotties sweating on the treadmill next to you? Smiling

I love to take pictures of birds, scenery anything to do with nature and WILY cowboys. LOL I don't like my picture being taken. Always have. Got nothing to do with appearance or being self-conscious. I am just not a fan of having my pic taken. Simple as that.

Gary -- at least you can see her eyes.  So many who feel the need to take picture of themselves in mirror, either block their whole face, or have the camera at a crazy angle.  The picture taking is almost as bad as the tweeting of EVERYTHING they are doing.  One almost gets the impression that these folks are afraid that if they are cut off from the internet for more than half an hour, they would cease to exist.

I think it came with affordability and technology.  I take a ton of photos, not of me, but I'm not a self centered teenager anymore... but years ago I imagine I would have done just the same.  Only I would have had on more clothes.

Gary, I'm amazed at some of the photos that wind up on Facebook.  A local Realtor had one of himself doing a little bit of mooning.  His mother would be appalled!  I was at any rate.

Gary, I think that it has to do with the ease and inexpensiveness of taking pictures today.  It is really cheap and easy to process dozens of pictures in an hour.  Having phones with really good cameras also is another reason for the number of photos that are generated.  I remember having to pay for all of my photos that I snapped, including the mistakes.  That used to make me much more cautious of the photos that I used to take.

Cameras are everywhere!  If that old guy was made sad because he forgot to take his cell phone camera to the gym, it will give him some relief to know the health center where I work out at doesn't allow them anyway.  Folks can get into mischief with one of those devices in a gym environment.  Afterall, there's the row of yoga students in front of you, the locker rooms and the showers:-)

Good evening Gary. Scares me a litle how many camera sources are out there. Seems like everyone wants to snap away and upload without thinking. My day starts with Active Rain and then un-tagging Facebook pics from the day before.

I was at a restaurant the other day and the youngest daughter at the table wouldn't let her family eat until she had taken a photo of the meal with her iPhone.  It wasn't a fancy restaurant.  I was thinking the same thing.  What's up with this?  Who cares what you had for lunch?

It definitely helps that you don't have to drop it off at the drugstore, wait for days for it to be ready and pay for the developing. It's just so easy plus we're all so self-absorbed, or so it seems sometimes.
