Well kept secret: VA Program that help Veterans and surviving Spouses

Another Nugget for those who work with Seniors in their quest to stay in their homes ..

elderly womanI drive for the North Austin Caregivers in Austin Texas.  I've driven for approximately ten years.  It's a joy to visit with the elderly as I drive them to the doctor, grocery store, recreation center or any place they need to go.

I believe this is a great way to Pay It Forward as I too might need help in the future.

North Austin Caregivers newsletter came to my inbox today and had this "nugget" of information that just seemed like the thing to pass along to my colleagues at ActiveRain.

(I ask that you re-blog this for as many people to see it as possible!)

Hope you find just one person that this program can benefit:

Are you a Veteran, or the Widow of a Veteran?

Did you know that the Veterans Administration offers help with the costs of Assisted Living Facilities?

A program called, The Aid and Attendance Program (A & A), provides benefits for veterans and surviving spouses who require assistance with the tasks of daily living. These tasks include help with bathing, dressing or medication administration. It also includes veterans who are blind or a patient in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity. Assisted care in an assisted living facility also qualifies

The A & A Program can provide up to $1,519 per month to a veteran, $976 per month to a surviving spouse, or $1,801 per month to a couple.

The A & A Benefit Program is a well-kept secret that not many Veterans or their spouses know about. These benefits can mean the difference between living in a safe environment and getting the assistance you need, and living alone and going without help. Assisted Living Facilities are expensive, so get the help you deserve. Look into the A & A Program now to see if you qualify.

For more information call toll-free: 877-222-8387 or go online: www.va.gov or  www.veteranaid.org.

I'd love to work with anyone in the Austin Area that might need that special touch with their elderly parents, siblings or friends as they make the difficult decision to sell their home.  Give me (Gwynn Teal Carpenter, Broker of Home and Hearth Realty) a call at (512) 467-6191 to begin the discussion.

Gwynn:  How wonderful that you help you area's seniors in the way you do .. you should be proud.  Your VA Program and benefit info is timely, as I have an aunt that is contemplating a move into assisted living that would definitely be a recipient of this benefit ... and my own mom too.  Will be passing this info on immediately.  And I'll re-blog tomorrow too ... as this will be a perfect follow-up to my own blog posted today.  Thanks for the great info ... please keep it coming!
