Email Subject Lines: Advanced Email Marketing

Real Estate Broker/Owner with WebTech Dezine, Gabrielle Jeans Real Estate Coach

Subject Lines – I can’t overemphasize the importance of email subject lines.  They are the single biggest factor in how well your emails will be received.  A focused, specific subject line greatly encourages people to open and read.  For example, if you were sending out a just listed flier, your subject line could read “Newly Listed 242 Main Street Condo”.  When you make your subject lines too general you greatly reduce the chances of having your email read.  If you send out a newsletter don’t use a boring subject line like “April 2010 Newsletter”.  Rather, have your subject line describe the articles used within your newsletter.  For example, the subject line could be “April Rosedale Listings, Solds, and Market Watch”.

Another key consideration with subject lines is their length.  Virtually all email software programs have a limit on the number of letters displayed in the subject line when viewed from the inbox with all your other emails.  So you really need to consider your subject line’s words carefully.  Make sure you use the most specific, descriptive words first.  Always mention your farm neighborhood in your subject lines.  Also be sure to give them a reason to open the email and this is best done by having the subject line state the benefit to the recipient in reading the email.

Agreed, I am not a fan of all these generic email campaigns either, they are frankly all the same. niche markets with custom email campaigns are much better.

We learned a long time ago that each email should have a subject and your suggestion to enhance the wording in the title is a good one!

Gabrielle - You are so right about the subject line.  It can make a huge impact on open rates.  Thx for the great tips.
