Whitney Farms Homes and Golf Course Monroe CT 06468

Whitney Farms Golf CourseThe Whitney Farms golf course and community of homes in Monroe CT was originally established as a dairy and horse breeding farm.   It was purchased in the mid 1970’s and redesigned to feature an 18-hole championship golf course surrounded by over 250 predominantly colonial homes.

I can remember driving up to what was just dirt and part of the original stone barn back in 1978.  Only Hillside Lane and Spinning Wheel Road were cut through.

At that time I was in search of a home site and the developer offered land purchases to the general public with some building restrictions on size and style. I ended up purchasing a .75 acre lot and eventually built a 3 bedroom colonial. Only 3 bedrooms homes were allowed due to town septic restrictions.  Most homes in the area are colonial in style.

Eventually Lazy Brook was cut through as well as Settlers Farm and the streets surrounded the entire Whitney Farms golf course which officially opened in 1982.  Some homes are right on the fairways; others across the street and some have no view of the course at all.  The architects of the project preserved the original ponds and scenic views in the layout.

The home community consists mostly of 3BR/2.5 bath homes ranging on the average about 2,000 to 2,600 square feet.  There are some 4BR homes.  Home sites are approximately a half acre to ¾ acre, give or take.  Homes are heated by natural gas, and all have septic and city water.

Since most of the homes were built in the 1981-1986 timeframe, most have been completely updated with the newer features most buyers are searching for.

There is no homeowners association as many expect with a golf community.  The golf course is public and features 6,628 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.  There is a driving range, putting green, pro shop and the course is no longer carts only.  Walkers are permitted to play.

On-site is also a catering facility (The Stone Barn) with a public restaurant on the lower level.

At Whitney Farms, you can live on or near the course and not be forced into purchasing a golf membership.   However, if you love to golf, check out the Whitney Farms Golf Course site for season passes and pay-per-play prices.

Barbara looks like you made a wise decision to purchase that lot and build your home in Whitney Farms.  Looks like an excellent community to live in.

George -- It certainly was a great decision at the time. That was many years ago and life took me in another direction. It was hard to move from there since it is really a lovely community and one that I was thrilled to have purchased into. It remains a much sought after area of homes in Monroe. I really love that area.

Barbara, the course at Whitney Farms did offer some great challenges and from the tips was a real challenge. It was a very pretty layout with those well manicured lawns along the fairways.

Ed -- It's a bit too challenging for my skill level, but my friends and family play there very often and love the course. It's really nice the way the course was designed through the community. It's very well done and really adds some good value to these homes.
