Fireworks, Concert Highlight Gaithersburg’s 4th of July Celebration

Independence DayCelebrate our nation's independence with friends and family as the entire community comes together for food, music, and fireworks on Wednesday, July 4.  Gaithersburg once again presents its Independence Day Celebration at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.  Gates open at 5 p.m.

A lively two-hour concert featuring live music by Back to Zero, a versatile band based out of Arlington, Virginia, starts at 7 p.m.  A few brief remarks from the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council will be made at 8 p.m.  The exciting fireworks display launches at dusk (approximately 9:25 p.m.).  In the event of rain, the fireworks only will be held on Thursday, July 5.

The Montgomery County Fairgrounds is located at 16 Chestnut Street in Gaithersburg.  Walk in at Chestnut or Dalamar Streets; the Perry Parkway entrance to the Fairgrounds will be closed.  No unauthorized cars will be allowed in the Fairgrounds. Those with handicap tags or stickers will be allowed access to the Fairgrounds through the gates at the Dalamar Street entrance.

Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and blankets to enjoy a picnic during the event.  Food will also be sold at the celebration.  For safety reasons, the following are strictly prohibited:  alcoholic beverages, glass containers, rollerblades, skates, bikes, pets, and fireworks of any kind.

Thank you very much for your comments.  It is always good to hear from you.

Cal:  Dolores and I do not have a regular holiday schedule.  We have no family obligations so we can make last minute decisions if desired.

Hi Roy, I was thinking about you today as I read about all the 4th of July celebrations that will take place here in San Diego. Longwood Gardens, one of our mutually favorite places is said to have one of the most imprssiive fireworks displays and wondered if you and Delores have ever gone there to celebrate the 4th. I have seen a few photos and it did indeed seem extraordinary.

No, William.  We have not seen the Independence Day fireworks at Longwood Gardens.  Everything they do is world class and it is one of our favorite places to visit.

The City of Gaithersburg announces that its Independence Day Celebration, including fireworks display, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, is cancelled. This is being done to ensure that power restoration efforts following last Friday's severe weather continue in full-force.

Be well prepared for very hot weather.

Remember your pets.
Hot weather can affect the well-being of pets making them susceptible to overheating which can lead to very dangerous heat stroke. Always provide a source of water and a cool, ventilated place for your pet. Leaving your pet inside a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be fatal. The inside of a car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes.
