Managing Real Estate Broker with Magnolia Realty ~ Granbury TREC #547752

When the phone rang yesterday I answered it as I always do if possible. If I do miss a call, I return it as quickly as I can. I am in this business to help my clients buy or sell real estate. We are in a very brisk market right now and with the number of relocation's coming to our area, they need responsive real estate professionals.

The woman on the other end of the phone was elated that I answered the phone and shared with me that the agent the relocation company had given her had not returned her call from last week. The emails that she sent to her also went un-returned. When I answered her call you could hear the relief.

A typical family of five needing to relocate to The Woodlands and get settled in as soon as possible in order to get the kids acclimated before school was paramount. Therefore, every weekend was critical for them to be out looking for a home that would work for them! We had a great conversation and I was able to show them many homes and introduce them to our area.

Because I answered a call, I now have a new client. They are thrilled that I know the area very well and their level of apprehension went way down. I loved being able to show them The Woodlands as it is truly a unique and wonderful community.

We can't always answer every call immediately yet we can certainly respond back as soon as we can. Our business is not 9-5, five days a week. Being responsive can and will gain you clients!

If you are looking to buy or sell real estate in The Woodlands area, call Chevaux Group! Not only do we know the area, we love what we do and we are looking forward in assisting you with your next real estate transaction.

Call us today, we will return your call!

Good morning, Paula....I think it's amazing that real estate agents cry about not having business but they don't want to answer the phone..... it doesn't make sense....congratulations on your latest new client...

Way to go! I think we'd be surprised at how many times this happens. I must admit that there are times when we can't answer the phone. One of my clients told me the first Realtor that answered the phone would be his Realtor. He had made about 5 calls then he got me.

I wanted to set up an appointment for a showing for Sunday after 1pm.  I called the listing agent and she said her seller did not show on Sunday's.  Well then I asked for a Saturday showing and that was also not a good time.  The seller said Monday-Friday only.  The problem is the buyers work Monday thru Friday.  The wife from 9am to 5:30 and the husband 11am to 8pm.

Sellers and agents should be aware that buyers want to see a home when they want to see it.  If you want to sell be more open to the buyers times and not your own...

Sunday showing or answering the phone may be a good idea if you to be in business or sell your home.

Great post..

Good morning Paula,

Excellent post and a reminder to everyone that to have business you can't squander opportunities.  Although no one can work 24/7, flexibility is one of the keys to success in this business.  Congratulations on your new client!

A great post, Paula! Being responsive WILL get AND KEEP clients. It's also a great approach when dealing with colleagues. I have sent multiple messages to an agent I'm currently in a transaction with and the last time we spoke on the phone she said "Oh. If only I looked at that".  Answer the phone & reply to emails... the bar is low!

Thank you all so much.  This client is also looking for homes in the six figures and is a cash buyer.  The other agent lost out for sure.  I too am amazed at how many un-responsive agents I encounter on the weekends.  I am simply stunned when I don't hear back from them for days on end.  We must make hay while the sun shines in this business.  Have a great week all!

That relocation company should be told about the level of service their referral agent is providing.  Simply shameful but the buyer won out in the end by obtaining the services of an excellet agent!

Good post Paula and so true.  I rarely do not answer my phone and sometimes have had responses from the caller on the other end that they were excited I did answer because that had not been their experience so far in calling on properties.  Congratulations on your new client!

Kathryn, you are so right.  Sometimes I think they just pick an agent on their list and never find out how that experience was.  Also this agent was from the other side of Houston.  The Woodlands is a very specialized market.  Good thing this woman called and found a local expert!  :)

I, too, am amazed at people when they sound so surprised that I answer my phone, agents included.  Customer service is our industry, no matter the day!

I've had similar situations before when I showed relocation clients who saw my house at my open house and I set them up with meetings with the builder twice and a week later, got a phone call from their "agent" who just showed up and took home a paycheck on a $850,000 house.  I was hot to say the least.  Make sure you don't get hosed by relo or the other agent ; )

I try my best to answer the phone with it rings, evenings or weekends, but its not always possible. Im pretty good about returning the call quickly though if I do happen to miss them. Its important to be available for your clients and/or potential clients.
