Lately, I’ve been spending a fair amount of time working on my LinkedIn profile. Even though I’ve had a LinkedIn account since 2006, I can literally count on one finger the number of times I had previously updated anything. That being said, after attending a 4-Hour LinkedIn Bootcamp, I was now ready to jumpstart my LinkedIn activities. Clearly, joining groups of interest is one integral part of the entire LinkedIn experience.
While looking around for new groups to join, I spontaneously entered my last name into the search box – just for fun. Imagine my surprise when a group called ‘Global Shapiro Network’ popped up. The founder of the group, who resides in London, writes that all Shapiros are essentially connected either by historical origin and/or by way of the Issachar tribe. Sort of a Shapiro-six-degrees-of-separation-kind-of-thing, I guess. Interestingly, the founder also mentions that some of us may have originally been named 'Shoemaker' – then allegedly having our names changed by immigration officials many generations ago. Whatever the case, I am now a member of the 'Global Shapiro Network' and connected with other Shapiros all over the world. How cool is that?
Is there a LinkedIn Global Networking Group for members sharing your last name too?
