Lewis Orchards Farm Market

 

When you move to Maryland, you expect to find good food and prospective home buyers ask about the best places to shop and are always interested in farm markets.  One of the first farm markets we always recommend is Lewis Orchards.  The market is located in Dickerson, Maryland, between Poolesville and Beallsville.  From Kentlands, you just drive out Darnestown Road (State Route 28) until you reach the intersection with Peach Tree Road.

 

Lewis Orchards is a family owned business that has been part of Montgomery County, Maryland life since 1888.  Robert and Linda Lewis are the fourth generation to own and operate the Lewis Orchards Farm Market.

 

For those that are new to the community, we suggest a stop at the Lewis Orchards Farm Market on the way to taste wine at the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyards.  Both are destinations that will be enjoyed.

 

Dolores and I shopped at the farm market on Saturday and I took some photographs to share with you.  It is always a good idea to have a camera in hand when you want to share a special experience.

We just had breakfast and the peaches, blueberries and blackberries made me want more.  I love the sign for Lewis Orchards, signs on the East Coast are so different than our signs.  It is beautiful.  The photos of the produce are so vivid that I wanted to grab some of it for our salad this evening.  And then the corn, like you, I could eat it every evening.  I share Dolores' passion for fresh food, and that is why we are at the Farmers' Market at least once a week.  Thanks for this wonderful photo tour. Those are wonderful looking foods, Roy!  Lewis Orchards reminds me a lot of Davis Ranch in nearby Sloughhouse, here in the greater Sacramento region.  Driving out there, provides an opportunity to see a little bit of country, not far from the city.

Be well prepared for very hot weather.

Remember your pets.
Hot weather can affect the well-being of pets making them susceptible to overheating which can lead to very dangerous heat stroke. Always provide a source of water and a cool, ventilated place for your pet. Leaving your pet inside a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be fatal. The inside of a car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes.

A flash flood watch has been issued for parts of Montgomery County, Maryland from Monday afternoon through Monday evening. Expect heavy rainfall that may produce flooding during that period. 

 
Flooding kills more people every year than any other weather hazard. Do not drive through flooded areas. If you live in a flood prone area, be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding develops.  Please stay alert for any warnings.

Budget & Fee Schedule Adoptedbudget
The FY19 budget process is now complete with the approval of the strategic plan, budget and fee schedule at the June 4 Mayor and City Council meeting. The strategic plan outlines the priorities for the City in the coming years, with the budget reflecting those priorities. The FY19 adopted budget is $70.7 million, with $10.9 million of that total committed to capital improvements, including the construction of a new police headquarters, new parks, street reconstruction, and other infrastructure enhancements. The documents will be available online as of July 1, 2018.
