Montgomery County, Maryland Parking Enforcement

During the summer months, some of the residential streets, including streets in Kentlands, have a parking shortage near community swimming pools and recreational facilities. We just received a phone call from a home owners association asking about parking regulations.  Residents and visitors need to be alert to avoid parking fines or towing.

The Police Department looks for the citizens of our communities to observe and comply with all parking laws of Montgomery County.  Most fines are $50.00 for each offense and the vehicle could also be subject to tow and storage fees. This is a list of the most applicable parking laws as provided by the Police Department.

Montgomery County Code Enforcement Wording

31-12  No Parking Anytime in violation of Official sign

31-14  Parking of commercial vehicle/recreational vehicle in a residential area in violation of the law

31-17  No Parking within 35 feet of an intersection/intersecting roadway

31-18  No Parking within 5 feet of a driveway

31-20b1  No Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant

31-20 b10  No Parking opposite to the flow of traffic (left wheels to the curb)

Please contact Deputy District Commander Lt. Ron Hardy at 240-773-6209 or ron.hardy@montgomerycountymd.gov if you have parking enforcement questions. If you see a parking infraction that poses an immediate danger, please contact the Police non-emergency at 301-279-8000.

If you have questions as to why a "No Parking Anytime" or a "Fire Lane" sign is posted, please feel free to contact Assistant Fire Marshal Marie LaBaw at 240-773-8917.

It might be a good time to leave your automobile in the garage and take a photowalk through your community.  Enjoy the blooming flowers and meet your neighbors.

Hi Roy and Delores.

I really like the rule,

31-20 b10  No Parking opposite to the flow of traffic (left wheels to the curb)

So many here park any which way. It makes me crazy. Like I needed any help after chasing Uncle Bob for years.

Have a good day and evening in Montgomery County.

Best, Clint McKie

Thanks for your comments.  Our power was just restored after the outages caused by the Friday night storm.  News reports say that over a million families in the area are still without power.

Traffic Code enforcers are probably the most unpopular folks around, but I sure do not like paying the fines.

Roy, sometimes it's so simple - walk a little - get a little exercise.  Have you ever noticed that all of the close up front parking spaces are always taken at a health club?  Hmmmmmmm.  Maybe a few more people will read you well provided information on Montgomery County parking laws AND take a leaf out of your book - walk for health.

We should all ride bicycles to avoid traffic jams.

Have a nice weekend.

Howdy and evening Roy

Roy, the Cops in my Town don't enforce such Laws, they don't even give out Speeding Tickets. The reason they don't, has do with the Town does not get to keep the money from them giving out Tickets. The Town has to turn over all money from tickets to the State of New Hampshire.

 Have a good one

Roy, Getting the word out about these traffic regulations will help everyone realize that there are restrictions that must be observed or pay the price...

Good morning to all.  Your comments are always appreciated.  I home is near the Kentlands clubhouse and pool and we see lots of summertime parking violations.

Many Maryland families face another very hot day without electricity as a result of the severe damage from the Friday night storm.

Have an outstanding week!

Be well prepared for very hot weather.

Remember your pets.
Hot weather can affect the well-being of pets making them susceptible to overheating which can lead to very dangerous heat stroke. Always provide a source of water and a cool, ventilated place for your pet. Leaving your pet inside a parked car, even for a few minutes, can be fatal. The inside of a car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes.

A flash flood watch has been issued for parts of Montgomery County, Maryland from Monday afternoon through Monday evening. Expect heavy rainfall that may produce flooding during that period.

Flooding kills more people every year than any other weather hazard. Do not drive through flooded areas. If you live in a flood prone area, be prepared to move to higher ground if flooding develops.  Please stay alert for any warnings.
