The Ilikai Hotel (also known as Ilikai Apartment Building in MLS) is a mixed use building in Waikiki that has commercial and residential condos. It was made famous in the original intro of Hawaii Five-O.
Original Hawaii Five-O Intro featuring Jack Lord at the Ilikai in Waikiki
With a storied history, the condo market at the Ilikai in Waikiki has seen its ups and downs over the years. When it first went to market, it was an iconic building, far larger than anything in its immediate vicinity. In hindsight, anything bought back then was a bargain to today's standards.
During the peak of the last real estate market here on Oahu, it was standard for a 1 bed, 1 bath condo at the Ilikai to demand at least half a million bucks. When the market turned, so did the ambitions of another real estate developer as a block of units was foreclosed on. Today, the lender is slowly releasing some of that block of units back to the market. The Ilikai has also started to rebound since the bottom of the market a few years back.
Ilikai Condos in Waikiki are definitely a great product to look at. Although prices have come up since the bottom of the market, they are still selling for less than what they were at the peak. With the new Hawaii Five-O jumping on board and giving the Ilikai props during its intro, I think this iconic building still has many great years ahead.
