I can finally say that I know my son and ex have evacuated Colorado Springs and are staying with friends, miles from this disaster... Whew!
My heart goes out to those who still don't know.
With that in mind, I thought of the things we look at when purchasing a home or property. When looking at home, do you actually think of or include possible natural disasters?
More often than not, that answer would be "No"
While some folks think about square footage or marble or stainless steel, they may want to think about their surroundings, environmentally speaking.
When I moved to Colorado, I did think about snow, forest fires and the potential for Tornado's.
Wherever each of us live, we know of the impending or possible disasters that could wreak havoc in our lives and we've learned to adjust.
The same should apply when seeking to purchase a home or land in an area we are unfamiliar with. Now tha I live in the Mountains, I don't have to worry so much about Tornado's, but I do have to be alert to the seasonal challenges that I face every year. In the Winter, it is Blizzards. The Summer is Forest Fires.
When making your next purchase, especially if it's in an area you don't know much about, do your homework. Not only do you need to look at the housing market, you need to know a few things about the potential dangers you or your family could face and take that into account as well.
Our fire is nothing compared to what the folks on the Front Range are dealing with.
