If you consider Honolulu a "big city" and want to get away from it all and live on a smaller (man made) island, Koko Isle in Hawaii Kai may be the spot. You can access Koko Isle by a small bridge and the "island" sits on the marina in Hawaii Kai.
I have to say what is really cool about Koko Isle is it literrally is like an island. Unlike other man-made peninsulas in Hawaii Kai's marina like the Peninsula at Hawaii Kai or Kuapa Isle, the bridge to and from Koko Isle is the only point of access.

So, now that we know how cool Koko Isle is, let's talk about the real estate product. They are all 2 story townhomes. As you can see from the aerial photo above, not all of them are on the marina. Obviously, those are more valuable and command higher prices. Owners also have the option of having their own boat dock as you can see as well.
During the peak of the market, town homes at Koko Isle in Hawaii Kai were going for $800,000 plus. As I wrote about last year, there are some good values in the project now. Where else in Hawaii can you say you live on an island with your own boat dock out the back?
