The Eve of Construction

Building high-performance homes for Martha Rose has been an evolutionary process since the 1970s. In 1979 Martha was part of a group that was responsible for creating one of the first Alternative Energy Fairs in Washington State. The fair featured over 50 exhibitors showcasing, solar, wind, wood recycling, conservation techniques that were more popular with the counter culture than main-stream America.

Fast forward to 2012 Martha Rose, an award winning Green Builder, is building some of the most innovative high-performance homes in the Seattle marketplace.  With permitting several weeks away Rose is making plans for 4 new homes in Rainier Vista expected to be completed in early 2013. Rose’s collection will be solar ready, extremely energy-efficient and their trade mark a “healthy indoor” living environment, featuring a high-performance heat-recovery-ventilator, an air tight thermal envelop and low to little VOCs in the interior finishes.

Rose is  choosing to build to the standards of the government’s Building America and Builder’s Challenge programs, Energy Star and local green home building program Built Green, which require that the homes be at least  30% more energy-efficiency than code built homes.

The City Cabins© concept was first developed when Rose wanted to build high-performance homes that had some back to basics styling with an urban rustic feel.  In February of 2012 the first City Cabins in Seattle were completed and quickly sold out.

By combining traditional architecture with leading-edge building science and hi-performance construction you get the new “urban hybrid” City Cabins.  The unique design- building combination is a pure comingling of the best of the past and the optimizing of the next-gen building science movement.
