Managing Real Estate Broker with Magnolia Realty ~ Granbury TREC #547752

Active Rain Family, our fellow bloggers Cherise & Gordon Selley who live in Colorado Springs are in a dire situation. Their home is in the neighborhood of the Flying W Ranch where hundreds of homes were lost due to the fires. I just got off of the phone with both of them and thankfully they are both safe as well as their son.

They believe that their home may have been miraculously spared from the fire but won't know more until later this evening or tomorrow. The do know that every home just behind them are all completely gone! The devastation is beyond words. Through it all, they both are maintaining their tremendous faith and are assuredly going to be beacons of light for their community as they will rebuild their lives, their homes and their community.

Hearing them describe the horrific scenes was unbelievable.  The word Apocalyptic kept coming up and when you watch the video above, you can see why.  The people of this city are numb with this event.  Gordon said that over 350 homes have been lost as well as a great number of commercial buildings . He does believe that their office was spared as well.

Please take a moment to say a prayer for all of the people in this area.  Pray for safety and for the containment of this fire. Pray for them as they rebuild.  Gordon and Cherise were some of the first people that I connected with here on Active Rain. When I was going through my own fire with a major health crisis, they were my rock solid prayer partners.  It is now my turn to be their rock.  As an Active Rain community, we can rally around the Selley's and the many others who are going through this tragedy.

Hi Paula. You can certainly count on me to be a prayer partner for Cherise and Gordon Selley. I know how devastating those fires can be after seeing all those damages we had last year in Texas with our wildfires.

Good morning all.  I am awaiting word from the Selley's if they learned anything about their home last night or this morning.  I hope that you were able to watch the video of Cherise filming this scene,  It is surreal and frightening.  My heart is so broken for that city and the people who have lost so much.  Praying.

Paula, I have been following the Selley's story from the beginning with Facebook videos Cherise posted. This was their comment from 4 pm Mountain Thursday.

Thank YOU so much for your outpouring of love and concern for our family. We evacuated on Saturday, and staying with dear friends who have opened their home for us for office and living. From satellite images, our home is standing in the midst of complete destruction behind us. Most of our neighbors homes in the cul-de-sac and to the side of us are standing, the homes behind are gone. My heart breaks for our neighbors who have lost their homes, and those of us who have homes standing, we have the opportunities to become gatekeepers for our neighborhood. We will all be a part of closer community than ever imagained, together we will make it!

Gary, so glad you have been following them as well.  The videos make me tear up every time I watch them.  I can hear the fear yet strenght in Cherise's voice.  They will have a long road ahead of them as they climb out of the ashes.  They told me last night that their homes might be burned but their spirit is stronger than ever!

"I listen for a living." It's all about you.

These fires are devastating for the families, the community and our country. I was pleased to see the President declared it a Federal Disaster zone which will get these folks some help, but really, how do you define help when everythign you have has gone up in smoke.  My prayers are with my Active Rain friends Cherise and Gordon and all thier neighbors.
