This isn’t the first time I’ve written about one of our favorite listings, the historic farmhouse at 1004 Tunnel Mountain Road just outside of beautiful Dillsboro, NC. Usually, I’ve shared the magic of the property and now want to highlight the practical aspects.
This sweet and comfortable farmhouse has the unmistakable “out in the country” feel but is just five minutes from Dillsboro!
Built in 1890 and renovated in the late 80s, there are two welcoming entrances to the house. On the front, enter off the wide deck/gazebo area into the living room or in the back, enter the cozy sunroom and go through the eat in kitchen. From the kitchen table, enjoy one of the many gardens and listen to the babbling creek flowing through the entire property. The master bedroom, connected study/reading room and half bat are upstairs. There is a second bedroom, laundry room and full bath downstairs.
For all you “do it yourselfers” and garden aficionados, the workshop/greenhouse combination is a big hit. Our seller, Patti, tells us that the power has never had to be turned on in the greenhouse…even in the coldest winters. The floored attic would easily double to extra craft space or an overhead sleeping loft. Attached to the workshop is a generous covered area for gardening tools, equipment and mowers.
The original smokehouse is just outside the main house and makes a great storage or potting shed. The old barn is large enough to house chickens, rabbits, extra storage or use your imagination. Finally, who doesn’t love the little goat barn…former home of Molly and Wiggins, the goats. The goat barn is the focal area of the huge fenced in pasture ideal for grazing goats or horses.
The property is 7.45+/- acres of some of the prettiest property in Jackson County, a high mountain valley with beautiful pastoral and mountain views. This farmhouse could easily be someone’s comfy fulltime home or be used while the house of your dreams is built. Then you've got ready-made guest house visitors will want to stay in over and over.
The large, babbling creek travels by several perfect seating spots including a swing and a second large gazebo.
The sellers recently reduced the price of this special property at 1004 Tunnel Mountain Road to $199,900. Take a golden opportunity and immerse yourself either in sustainable living or just live enjoyably on incredible magic & practical property, the views, the creek, the myriad of gardens and the utter peacefulness of the area. Considering the privacy, it’s hard to believe there is practically immediate access to many of the outdoor activities that the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smoky Mountain National Park have to offer…along with an easy drive to all of our Western North Carolina mountain towns…Dillsboro, Sylva, Franklin, Waynesville and Bryson City. As a bonus, the trip to Asheville is only a beautiful hour’s drive away.
1004 Tunnel Mountain Road - honest to goodness true country living!
