Today is an absolute scorcher in Charlotte, with dangerously high temperatures. First I would like to stress my concern that you refrain from running outside without water and be safe by treating your body right instead of pushing it to its breaking point. Secondly many people need to get past these boiling, thermostat bursting temperatures with out bursting their home cooling bill. Here are a few tips that will help you stay cool this summer!
-Set the thermostat higher when you leave the house. There's no point in setting your thermostat to 70 degrees while your at work, so set it higher than what you usually have it on while at home.
-Using a fan can help drastically! You do not have to go out and buy a Dyson "no blade" fan for $500, a $50 fan will do just as good if not better. Fans are only a few cents an hour to keep on and can drop the temperature in a room by six degrees!
-Texas of all people knows how to deal with heat so they have their own method named after them to cool your home. Texas Cool is a method where in the morning you shut your blinds and windows and keep the cool air in the house. Then at night all you do is open windows and use a window fan or house fan to bring in the cool night air.
-Programmable thermostats are amazing too! They only cost up to $50 and can take up to 20% off your bill! You just program the thermostat for different temperatures at different times of the day!
-Make sure your air ducts are in good condition. Call a professional to take a look for leaky air ducts, minor repairs can be done yourself but if its drastic leave it to the professional.
-Lastly, make sure your attic isn't producing a lot of the heat. Make sure you have the right insulation and it can drop your home temperature and make your shingles last longer!
