The culmination of WaterTower Theatre's two week Summer Performing Arts Conservatory is a kid-size production of Willy Wonka. The play is this weekend and I urge you to get your sweets on and head over to the theater at 15650 Addison Road, Addison, Texas. The play highlights the skills and techniques the campers acquired in the summer program.
I just came from the dress rehearsal and I think there are some future stars in the cast!
The summer class is for 6-18 year-olds and the kids learn acting, singing and dancing. Additionally, the summer camp gets into audition technique, voice, and art. Older participants get to explore techniques in scene study, play writing, Shakespeare, improvisation, stage make-up, musical theater, dance, costume design and film. The kids are taught in a unique, non-competitive, nurturing program.
Three little Pipers (Elizabeth, Madeleine and Kathryn) play Charlie Bucket, Veruca Salt and Violet Beauregard, respectively. Quite the talented family! Two more shout outs: to Jack Elloitt, the diminutive Willy Wonka, all but swallowed up in his top hat; and and Lauren Teel, the Candy Man. All in the cast, down to the very last Oompa-Loompa, are adorable.
