Developed by First Communities of Sarasota between 1977 to 1981, Center Gate was one of several other communities built by the same developer, including South Gate, Gulf Gate and Forest Lakes.
Center Gate's northern boundary is Bee Ridge Road with Proctor Road at the southern end. The western boundary is Honore Avenue with Cattlemen Road on the eastern edge.
