Yet another call for pool/water safety
Here we go again... This is a tough report here- as the tragic death of an innocent 11-year-old that was just trying to play some mini-golf follows.
From the outside looking in, I feel a duty to inform in instances whenever and wherever I can. If the early reports are true, this was surely a preventable death resulting from someone's negligence.
As the story indicates, GFI breakers are required for residential pools and hot tubs as well- this isn't a commercial or theme park issue alone. That said, it's my hope that the tragic death of this little girl and the attention coming from it may very well serve to save more lives down the road.

An 11-year-old girl who died while playing mini golf at a southwest Orange County time share was electrocuted, the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner ruled Thursday.
The autopsy determined that Ashton Jojo, of Latham, N.Y., was accidentally electrocuted Wednesday after she reached into a small pond to retrieve her golf ball at the Orange Lake Resort on Irlo Bronson Highway.
Orange County code-enforcement officers responded to inspect the min-golf's "water feature" Wednesday afternoon and found possible violations.
Inspectors found that it appears that electrical breakers were improperly replaced.
Ground-fault interrupter breakers are required for such water features that have submerged pumps, according to Allen Morton, assistant manager of Orange County's Division of Building Safety.
But it appears that non-GFI breakers were used, Morton said. GFI breakers are also required for hot tubs and swimming pools.
Water could have gotten inside the motor, electrical wires or the electrical connection, which would have caused the water to be electrically charged and fatally shocked the child, Morton said.
