Continuing our effort to highlight local businesses and local business people, we recently had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with Dr. Alice Brittain. Dr. Brittain is a family dentist and owns and operates her practice "Smiles on Stiles" out of her home office.
Having spent 10 years in the Air Force, as a Dentist, she has spent the last 20 years practicing Dentistry and Electrology out of her office on Stiles Street in Linden. While in the service, Dr. Brittain spent four years in Great Brittain, where she happened to meet her future husband, Air Force Colonel (ret.) Arthur Zapolski. Their whirlwind romance led to a marriage that would find them both living civilian, yet still very interesting, lives in Linden, NJ.
The practice is named Smiles on Stiles, but according to Dr. Brittain that's not just the name, it's what they do. The office is located in her home and is well equipped and has a terrific feel to it. It turns out that a hobby of hers is Feng Shui, the art of creating the perfect spot. It pays off because as soon as you walk in you feel relaxed and comfortable. She stated that "my patients are my family" and her attitude of how she deals with treating them is evident from the moment you walk in the door.
The philosophy behind the practice is to focus on prevention. Dr. Brittain works with every patient to help them maintain a healthy mouth. She believes that many people wait too long to visit the dentist. Sometimes people wait till they're in pain and by then the problem is usually more serious (and expensive) to treat. Dr. Brittain stated that preventive care is inexpensive and will improve the quality of your life on a daily basis.
Dr. Brittain is also a Certified Professional Electrologist. Electrology is a process of hair removal where the hair follicles are killed electrically preventing future hair growth. Her philosophy is that through permanent hair removal, she can help patients maintain their perfect smiles.
