Today, is the buyer’s final walk through…we are getting closer to closing.

These  days it can be challenging to even get a real estate deal put together- but add in a natural disaster like the High Park Fire and well, there were moments when I thought we would never get this far.

If you were traveling to Glacier View Meadows today, thankfully, you would not notice too much that is different unless you went down to the 12th filing.  The fire roared through the 12th filing faster than anyone could imagine.  The 12th filing was my second destination this morning.

But first, I went up to my listing, before the buyer’s final walk-through, to open the windows and let the cool morning air in.  A little rabbit ran beside me as I drove down the tree lined road and I must have seen 20 deer happily grazing in the green grasses underneath the trees. The skies are a little hazy/smoky today, but my seller's beautiful views remained the same as they were before, (the picture above was taken on a blue-sky day).

Except for the yellow "caution" tape tied around address signs or tree branches, everything looked the same in most of Glacier View Meadows as it did before the fire.

The taping was left by the firefighters, I believe as they went from house to house checking, turning off the propane tanks, perhaps making sure there were no occupants or pets left behind…it’s not a “caution” tape at all – but a sign that they were checking and all was clear.

After opening the house for the buyer, I had to go down to the 12th filing where I have 3 vacant land listings for out-of-state sellers and I promised one of my out-of-state buyers that I would check out their land as well.

I was dreading this part of the morning. Seeing houses reduced to rubble and so many trees burned was gut wrenching.  I travelled slowly and quietly in respect for the dead- both trees and dreams.  A group of trees that survived, patches of green grass amid the charred landscape, a bird singing from the tree top, and a little bunny running about lifted my spirits- there is still life there.  The land will heal.  In time, our hearts will heal too.

I wondered why a rickety old snow fence didn’t burn, while the home next to it was completely destroyed.  I thought about the valiant fire fighters who saved the homes that remained standing.  So many of them were not from this area and the roads can be confusing…thank goodness they all made it out safely through the smoke and flames.

It was an emotional morning- both happy and sad.

Such sadness for homeowners who have seen their dreams reduced to ashes – their final walk-through will be to say goodbye to all they once knew

and happiness for new buyers doing their final walk-through in their new home-to-be; bringing their own unique hopes and dreams to Glacier View Meadows, in Livermore Colorado.
