Reno is a beautiful place to live. When summertime hits, it's hard to stay indoors. Luckily, Reno offers plenty of fun for everyone to enjoy outside. Just because you love movies, doesn't mean you have to be cooped up inside. Reno's Artown offers free summer movies in the park throughout the month of July.
Beginning this Friday, July 6, 2012, Wingfield Park (1st St and Arlington Ave) will play host to the first movie in the series: "ET the Extra Terrestrial". It's been 30 years since Steven Spielberg first introduced us to the lovable ET and his human friend Elliott. This film is rated PG.
Other films in the series include:
- July 13, 2012 - "A Night at the Opera", rated G. Marx Brothers classic 1935 comedy.
- July 20, 2012 - "Strictly Ballroom", rated PG. Baz Luhrmann's ode to ballroom dancing with a twist.
- July 27, 2012 - "Grease", rated PG 13. John Travolta and Oliva Newton-John bring a touch of early 60's nostalgia to the big screen.
The movies begin each Friday at 9pm and run roughly until 11:30pm. Since seating is on the grass at the amphitheater, it is highly recommended that you bring a nice low-back chair and/or a blanket to enjoy the movie in comfort. Non-alcoholic drinks are allowed as long as they are in plastic containers. Feel free to bring along some snacks. We want to keep our parks clean. So, please make sure to clean up after yourself.
Take the family out for an evening of pure entertainment outdoors. Reno's summer movies in the park provided by Artown is a great way to enjoy family-friendly entertainment on a warm summer evening. What makes it even better is that it is absolutely free! Of course, the time spent with your family is priceless.
