Homeselling Journal ~ When You Are Not Cooking With Gas

I think I will start a home selling journal so that I never forget what a pain moving is! And so I can better relate to my home selling clients who have to go through this mess.Microwaved Eggs

Rather than wait for the home to go into escrow before getting a termite inspection, I followed my own advice to sellers...... get the inspection before you put it on the market and you will be able to take your time in getting bids for the repair work that may have to be completed.

This past weekend, my home was tented because there were termites in one small area of the framing area. One small area, and the whole house had to be tented!

So for those that have not gone through the process recently, you may not know that the Gas company must shut off your service. Well that is OK because you do  not want anything to happen to your biggest investment right before you are going to cash in on it.

But, what one forgets is that you must remember to call the Gas company and reschedule for them to come back two to three days later and turn that service back on. If you forget to do this, you will be out of gas for an additional day, at the very least.

Then when you call in, you are not given that morning or afternoon option for the re-connect. Since you are being “fit-in” because of the fumigation disconnect, you have to be available all day to meet the gas man or risk another day of no gas, because they will not turn it back on unless you are home.  Ugh!!

But the biggest inconvenience is when you go to the stove to fix a scramble egg for breakfast. After returning home after a few days out of your home, after not being able to take a shower because there is no hot water, then you can’t cook that egg because you have a gas stove.

Solution: This is the first time I scrambled an egg in the microwave and it was pretty good! Here is where I got this Microwave Scrambled Egg Recipe

Yes, moving is a pain, but there are some silver linings. And having a good ”work around” is one of them.

Next episode: bagging items for fumigation.

Glad you got through this and that the termites are now taken care of. I would have probably forgotten to call the gas company again.............great reminder!

Sorry you had to go through that, but it is always helpful to be able to sympathize with our clients! (You could scamble that egg on our driveway it is so hot here in Richmond Virgini!)

Happy 4th! And here is to a quick sale!

Hey Sandy -  Sounds like you went through a lot of stress but you kicked termite tail and won that battle!  Sometimes I think it's good for us to endure a little home inconveniences to remind us what our buyers and sellers do go through.  I don't like it but it makes me more mindful for a while at least.

Hi Sandy -- putting ourselves in our clients shoes(whether as a buyer or a seller) is a good experience for any real estate professional.  I like your idea of the journal --- maybe it will become a book.

Sandy, this was definitely an inconvenience and now you have a story to tell your buyers and sellers.

Sandy - I think as Realtors we are the worst sellers and the worst movers. We get impatient when things don't get done right away. Oh wait, so does everyone else :)
