I decided to join this contest because.... well, I love a challenge, I love the points and heck, it's a chance for and extra $500 and who would turn that down!?
But my marketing dollars are spent differently than real estate marketing in that we haven't spent more than $50 on marketing since we opened our business in 2005 and that was for business cards and a domain. Since then, we have trademarked our name "Personal SEO" but I don't consider that an advertising expense. I joined ActiveRain to benefit our clients and give them more exposure with back links and articles and surprisingly and obviously found a great target audience for our own business. So while the original intent was for clients it has morphed into a combination of both advertising our clients and us. I guess you can take AS as now marketing for our business but other than than, almost 100% of our budget goes into innovative and creative ways to market our clients. We thrive on referrals! We spend money on servers to host our clients, photo sites to buy images for our clients, and press releases to expose our client's and their business.
So how would I spend $500?
If given an EXTRA $500 this month this is the breakdown:
$85 - Server hosting for dozens of client websites - Love GreenGeeks and MediaTemple
$30 - ActiveRain Subscription - Self-explanatory
$50 - Photodune subscription and monthly image websites - Photodune.com / iClipArt.com
$285 - Paid press releases for our clients - Massive hits and exposure on paid PR Free-Press-Release.com / PRWeb.com 1800PressRelease.com
$50 - Traffic/Ranking/Tracking software
We really don't advertise. Our business lunches are over dinner at home and expenses are practically nil other than cell phone and internet which we would need anyway. Seems to me, this is the best kind of advertising - Not for ourselves, but for our customers. - THEY ROCK!
