Mayberry is more than a fictional place. It is a way of life.

Newnan Georgia - My Mayberry by Richard WeisserIt was with great sadness that I leaned of the passing of Andy Griffith. Although he was a skilled and versatile actor that succeeded in many endeavors, Andy will always be best remembered as the Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry North Carolina.

Born in Mt. Airy ( Mayberry ,,, Mt Airy …Mayberry … Mt Airy … get it?) Andy took his vision of small town Americana to the small screen in 1960.

As a child that was coincidentally the same age as Opie Taylor,  I often confused Mayberry with the real world.

In Mayberry, everybody looked after his neighbor, and went to great lengths to prevent hurt felling or damaged pride. Family always came first, and friends were treated like family!

In Mayberry, there was never a crisis that could not be solved in twenty-six minutes.

Even today, when we describe a small town with low crime and an easy-living lifestyle we call it “Mayberry.”

I know, because I live in one of them. Thanks Andy. Rest in peace.

I agree Richard a state of mind, a way of life of peacefulness and happiness. We can all take away a lot from that show, its cast and Andy.

I was so sad to hear about his passing too. I think Mayberry is what everyone thinks of America growing up...well at least our generation.

He was a brilliant actor and made you just love him.  I've invited him into my home for decades.

I loved that show. It was one of the few shows my parents approved of and allowed me to watch. It was great. I later learned to enjoy Matlock as well.

Richard - comedy is health. The "Loaded Goat" show (as corny as it was) still makes me laugh. Clean humor is a trademark of this enduring personality. RIP ANDY

Richard, I too will miss Andy Griffith.  Those episodes had a bit of wisdom in each one.

I want to move to Mayberry, Richard.  My wife watches something with Andy just about everyday.  It's her getting ready for the day background noise.  He will be missed.

I've got to get a hold of the movie "Lonesome Rhoades" that I keep hearing eveyone talk about.  Not sure if I've seen it before, but it's been buzzing ever since Andy Griffith died.

They don't make too many Hollywood celebrities like Andy Griffith. He will be sorely missed.

I often use the term "Mayberry" to describe my home town of Los Altos.  The world has evolved a bit and it seems the sense of community that Mayberry represented has disappeared.  It would be nice if those ideals would come back.

It was sad to learn of his passing. I loved that show, but never watched Matlock. Glad to know that places like Mayberry do exist.

I, too, was so sad to hear of Andy's passing... it's like the end of an era. I may have "known" the guy better than my own grandfather. He will be missed.

I remember the day my mother burst my bubble about Shirley Temple.  When I was a little kid I watched a lot of Shirley Temple movie Reruns.  Little did I know what a "rerun" was at that age.  I thought I was watching a little girl in the present day and I just loved her and her life.   I was as devastated as you can be as a kid when my mother told me Shirley Temple was really an older lady, she had grown up and was married and had kids of her own.  It was like being told the real truth about Santa Clause.
