Whether one buys or rents is a economic decision. Some may be shut out of buying due to short sales or foreclosures. 

What works for Jane, may not work for Dick.

I prefer to own by the way.

Down here in Florida renting is ridiculously high priced, so buying makes sense, but most Floridians are either too chicken or can't get a loan.  Yours looks like an incredibly nice home though.
