Howell Station Historic District struggled through the same dynamics that other inner city neighborhoods passed through as the population of the neighborhood evolved. Although the Howell Station Historic District area had its ups and downs, now is a very upswing time for the neighborhood. Howell Station offers you an opportunity to live in a special community, enjoy the wonders of living in town and avoiding traffic jams.
The proximity of the area to Downtown Atlanta and to Midtown Atlanta has caused a rise in home prices in the Howell Station Historic District. People want to live in an area with acceptable home prices and lots of amenities, both inside the house and in the surrounding area.
The neighborhood is now called the Howell Station Historic District. In the center of the neighborhood is Knight Park. The park was named after William T. Knight, the former Atlanta Alderman (1929-1971), who donated the four acres to the City of Atlanta. Knight Park, includes a tennis court and a children’s playground. The original 1945 community building, set in the middle of the tract, has been used as a storage building since the mid-80’s.
Close to Georgia Tech, the Howell Station Historic District offers housing to many interested groups of Buyers. Certainly University related families - students or professors from Georgia Tech - would benefit from living there. In addition - other groups would be folks who attend Georgia State University or work Downtown or in Midtown and don’t want a long commute each day.
And so it goes in America - out with the old neighborhoods and houses and in with the new. However, any “new homes” in the Howell Station Historic District would be in competition with the lovely older period homes. The older homes, now “new” again from the loving efforts of neighbors to bring Howell Station Historic District back to its comfortable and desirable level.
