Choosing Your Energy-Efficient Dual-Panes Windows!

Energy-Efficient WindowsThe increase in energy costs has led many homeowners to look for more smart energy solutions to implement in their homes! One of the most popular solutions is to replace the Single-Pane window system found in older homes with a Dual-Panes one.

When choosing your Dual-Panes windows, be aware of the following features, summerized here from the handycanadian.com:

  • Foam and Plastic are better than Solid Glass to keep you warm in winter! Why? Because glass acts like the metal when it comes to heat conductivity, creating cold spots near windows as the heat is drawn to the cold glass to neutralize itself.
  • Gas-Filled spaces are better than Air-Filled ones, as the air between the cold outer glass and the warm inner one will circulate and cause the warm air to escape to the outside. Manufacturers are now filling this space with gases like Argon, Krypton and Xenon to minimize the heat loss caused by the convection currents.
  • Foam-Plastic Spacers are better than Aluminum for many reasons, they can stop thermal transfer,  and handle the heavy wind pressure and the expansion and contraction of panes more efficiently.
  • Low Emissivity Coatings are highly recommended as they reflect the heat back to the home in winter, and prevent the excess heat from entering it in the summer.

Ryan & Sheri - Great post! Dual-pane, energy efficient windows are a smart energy solution in almost every climate. They are very beneficial here in Florida as well.

Have a nice day,
